Known best as the creator of Conan the Barbarian, he was a pulp writer who actually made a living by his writing, so that means he wrote a lot of other stuff - most of it pretty good.  Great storyteller.

Made a movie about him - “The Whole Wide World” - with some (then) unknown actress named Renee Zellweger.
